I done got tagged by mine mogsister to do this list-o-goodness. In no particular order of preference, then, and kicking off with the mog herself:
1)
stephmog. A day where I've had no contact with Steph feels incomplete. We are The Mind, The Chosen One, and I love her so very much.
2)
alexmog. Mine godsdaughter! I'm very privileged to be godsmother to this funny, creative, intelligent, loving little girl. I'm looking forward to being there for her while she's growing up. She's just like her mum in so many ways, and I can see that it's going to be interesting. ;)
3) My blood siblings, Melissa (
padfootlovesme) and David, who has not yet succumbed to the lure of LJ. They're both fab. They're intelligent and funny and generous and warm and very good-looking, and they're both doing well for themselves at university. I'm proud of both of them. I mention them both in one point because it's always been Melissa&David, one unit, though they're both very much individuals.
4) Ruffy! That kittin! James' cat is adorable. He's quirky and small and by turns affectionate and tetchy. He is always at maximum cuteness. I miss him when I'm not here, and I really look forward to seeing him when I come back. It feels wrong to sleep without Ruffy wandering in and out of the room. He has turned me into a cat person, whereas before I was mostly indifferent.
5) Bruno Baggins, aka Brownoo - my mum's dog. He's laid-back and friendly without being too all-over-you, and fluffy and bimbly and calm. Unlike most dogs, who want to go out for looooooong walks even in the freezing cold and pouring rain, and whine when they don't get what they want, Bruno is a sensible dog. If you open the door for him to go out when it's raining or really cold, he looks at you as if to say "You are joking, right? I'm not going out there!" and backs away from the door. If he wants some attention or some of whatever you're eating, he'll just look at you for a minute or so and then either walk off or lie down; he's a patient dog. He wants nothing more than to be left alone unless he specifically requests otherwise. He's ace.
6) Music. So many different kinds. I never travel without it, and I get so caught up in it. It can really affect my mood, and I'm very eclectic. Soundgarden, Morrissey, Missy Elliot, Counting Crows, D'Angelo, Tori Amos, Alice In Chains, Adam Ant, Depeche Mode, Gomez, the KLF, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Kings of Leon, REM, Stone Roses, T-Rex, and of course, my favourite band ever:
7) New Model Army. I feel more...myself when I listen to them. The music is uplifting, it's intense, it's truth. Everything takes on far greater clarity - me, my life, who I am, what I want, who and what I love, what's important - when they're playing. And there's nothing like being at an NMA gig. Such passion, such power, just the overwhelming rightness of being in a crowd of people who mostly feel the same way I do about this band and their music.
8) Reading. I'm as eclectic in my reading tastes as I am in my musical tastes. Very little makes me feel as contented as sitting somewhere comfortable with a good long book, a cup of tea, and something snacky to nibble while I read (sunflower seeds are best for this). Reading - my favourite thing to do with my clothes on and in place ;)
9) Drawing/painting/being creative - I can't do it as much as I might like, because my stupid body just won't let me, but I love it when the ideas just flow and I get absorbed in translating them onto paper or board or skin. Other times, it's being scratchy and difficult and uncooperative and I have to work bloody hard to complete it, but it's so satisfying when it's finally done.
10)
royan. I am still amazed that he loves me. I won't list all his qualities, or talk about how gorgeous he is, or any of that, because it'll bore you, embarrass him, and frustrate me because nothing I say would ever be able to do justice to how he really is or how I feel about him. I love James more than I ever thought could be possible.
In other news, Melissa is here, yay! She's currently asnoozy in the spare room, because she pulled an all-nighter to get some work done before she got the coach here. I'm pretty tired myself, and my face is all swollen up on one side and my mouth is a funny shape. The first thing Melissa said when she got in was "Wait...I'm trying to figure out which Muppet you remind me of." Mmm, thanks. :D
I really hope I look and feel ok for Whitby - currently, smiling and laughing are Bad Things because it pulls on the stitches. On the lower left I have a big painful empty socket where a tooth was removed after the root canal done in April failed, and at the front on the right I have stitches up where the gum meets my lip, where they had to cut my gum open to get at the root of one of my front teeth; yet another failed root canal from April. After Whitby I go back for a re-filling of another tooth, and that should be it for my dental doom for at least another six months. I hope.
On the upside, it does mean I get to live on broccoli & stilton soup and FatMilk for a few days. :)
