Lush are doing a thing where if 50 people order one of the discontinued items from a list they have here, then they will make it for everyone who ordered it in the 5 days they gave for people to order it! My sentence structure is abysmal! I have ordered some things including this wonderful thing which I have missed SO MUCH and I need 36 people to go and order one by about 8pm on Friday because if they don't then it won't get made and I will CRY. And you don't want me to cry, do you?

Will it make you cry if I tell you that Lush still uses sodium laureth sulfate in almost all its products; a known carcinogen? Parabens too.

I had to give up on Lush a while back :(

Ain't that the truth.

Yeah, fair comment.

Because it's in such low quantities in nearly every product, not present at all in some, & about as carcinogenic as eating smoked food, from my readings, I don't fret about it.

(sorry, not a rant, just something I had to research when I worked for them)

I liked that product, too. Wish I'd known you wanted some when I placed my order, as I was wondering whether or not to get it, & decided not to.

I used to not care too, then read some alarming stuff given to me by a friend working on the New Scientist which made me think twice about slathering it on myself every day.

Yeah, but since I'm never going to give up smoked salmon, & I go easy on the laureth/laurel sulphate products, I stick to worrying more about avoiding stuff like anti-perspirants (more than two years now, yay!) because my brush with cancer was a lump near my armpit.

You'd be surprised how spending your summer waiting for cancer-test results changes your outlook on life.

Been there. Twice. Have a new lump come up recently I'm about to go to the doctor with.

Good luck.

Mine was benign, so they left it where it was. Can't say I enjoyed the months I had to wait between appointments, though.

Having spent all my adult life terrified of the idea of being pregnant, the brush with mortality made me rethink things, & here I am now, waiting for a little goth-girl...

Are you going to Whitby, btw, 'cos me & Cav will be there.

Nope, not this time. :(

Awww, pity. Maybe next year, eh?

I seriously doubt I ever will go to Whitby again. I've been 18 times; this year's was just a gang of friends on holiday at the seaside - we didn't do the Spa and stuff, and I think that's it. I have other places I want to see.

Fair enough. It's not that big a place, & you must surely have seen ALL of it by now, but we're a bit sorry to miss you, as we old married folk don't get out much ;)

Yes, I read the ingredients list and wailed a bit but then figured, I only use Lush stuff occasionally because I don't like to use it all at once; the rest of the time I use home-made soaps and use essential oils in carriers as my moisturisers (I'm a crunchy type and use bicarb, vinegar and lemon as my main household cleaning agents as well) so it's not as bad as it could be. Having said that, now you've reminded me, I will cry a bit less if not enough people order the Gumback Express :)

Got my Lush Times today!

There is no sodium laureth sulphate in any of the bath-bombs or bath melts, butter cream moisturising soaps, regular soaps (although a few have sodium laurel sulphate) facial cleansers, face masks, solid shampoos (although, again, a few have sodium laurel sulphate) & most of the liquid shampoos & conditioners don't have any, either, although most DO have sodium laurel (or lauryl?) sulphate.

Seeing as it's a bubbly agent (wow, I'm scientific!) it doesn't occur in any of their other non-foaming products, either, & is otherwise only to be found in their bubble bar slices & shower gels/jellies.

As for parabens, there are a good deal of paraben-free products, too: basically, pretty much everything that isn't in a pot with a year-plus shelf-life.

If you're concerned about avoiding these chemicals, you'd have a better chance shopping in Lush than most places, & their website & Lush Times list all the product ingredients with natural ingredients printed in green & synthetics in black, to help you spot the things you want to know about.

Shira's banana product doesn't contain sodium laureth sulphate, btw, although it does contain sodium laurel sulphate.

Do you know if there's a particular difference? I'm not sure of it myself.

Sorry, this is a particular bugbear of mine, because although Lush didn't provide me with my happiest work environment (crap management) I do think they listen to their customers & try hard to cut out or right down on the synthetics wherever they can.

Were it not for the extortionate mailing costs to Greece, I would (along with some Banana Moon soap), but the P&P is damn well ridiculous and since they turned down my requests to open a store here (with my own money, I might add!) I try to keep my Lush spending to the bare minimum - a girl's got to have her Sonic Death Monkey, you know.
